In November of 2009, the City of Boulder started the Buy into Boulder campaign to encourage citizens to keep their hard-earned dollars in Boulder rather than making online purchases or shopping in neighboring communities.
The Boulder Chamber, City of Boulder, Downtown Boulder, Twenty Ninth Street, Boulder County Independent Business Alliance (BIBA), and University Hill are partners who support the initiative. For every $100 you spend at Boulder stores, $3.41 stays in Boulder.
The Boulder Chamber supports the campaign because it is vital to help support a strong local economy and sustainable community. Some of the factors keeping Boulder citizens shopping locally is that by keeping your money in your community, it directly impacts the retention of jobs, keeps police, fire and emergency services strong, as well as helps maintain our roads and to reduce our carbon footprint with less driving.
Downtown Boulder is proud to be a part of the Buy into Boulder effort – encouraging residents to shop and dine in the City of Boulder where city-derived sales tax supports services that benefit all residents and businesses (from open space and libraries to public safety). Downtown Boulder supports Buy into Boulder in an effort to help fuel the local economy, and to help preserve the unique character of our vibrant city.
Twenty Ninth Street is part of the Buy into Boulder campaign because it brings together the City of Boulder, BIBA and local retail districts to help educate the residents of Boulder on the impact of spending their dollars locally. Kim Campbell, senior property manager of Twenty Ninth Street, said “each dollar you spend, whether it be at Apple or modMarket, goes toward supporting our Boulder lifestyle.”
